What is this research about?

This research project aims to draw a portrait of the adoption of children born in Quebec involving the intervention of DYP (DPJ; Youth center).

How is my participation relevant?

Your involvement will contribute to the advancement of knowledge of the reality of Quebec adoption.

  • For the first time, it will be possible to draw a provincial portrait of adopted children in Quebec and their trajectory within the youth protection system.

  • It will be possible to learn more about the regional realities of adoption in Quebec and to draw a statistical portrait of regular adoption in Quebec.

  • The results will provide a better understanding of the backgrounds and experiences of adoptees, adoptive parents and biological parents.

    Precisely, it consists of:

    • documenting the different challenges faced by the adoptive triad throughout the adoption trajectory;
    • targeting the needs of the adoptive triad and detail the level of use of existing services or, where appropriate, the absence of certain services;
    • documenting the evolution of the physical and mental health of adoptees and families’ access to adequate health services.

What are the objectives?

Describe the characteristics of children who have been adopted through DYP, their origin and adoption environments, and their youth protection service trajectory.

Understand the experience of the adoption journey of adopted persons, their adoptive parents and their biological parents in terms of the challenges encountered and their needs.

Describe the overall health of children born and adopted in Quebec and the use of care and services by adoptive families.

How will the results be shared?

A final report will be submitted at the end of the project to the MSSSS. The results will also be disseminated to clinical, institutional and scientific communities.

The results will also be available on this site and on the social networks of l’Équipe de recherche sur le placement et l’adoption en protection de la jeunesse.

The identity of participants remains confidential.
